I’m not here to fight about this film - since the conversation has already descended into chaos and I don’t think anyone’s minds can be changed at this point - but I just want to reiterate how well the movie’s resolution works in my eyes. Whatever your misgivings may be with the comedy that comes before, I think it’s almost impossible to deny the feeling of that final scene, and it’s easily the most effective beat of the entire film.…

I have an interesting relationship with Adam McKay.

I hated The Big Short. I thought Vice was simply fine, surprised by the extreme reactions on either side.

So, it surprises me significantly to say that I found Don't Look Up to not only be an exponential evolution for the auteur, but also one of the most well-made movies of the year - and century - so far.

With Don’t Look Up, McKay synthesizes his signature sidesplitting social satire and acerbic political…

Don’t Look Up is a firecracker of a film, calling out institutional indifference to impending disaster with relatable - and riveting - rage. Its script may not be subtle, but it is side-splitting and filled with scathing satire, and its story serves as a petrifying parallel for the worldwide crises we continue to face today - crises that are met with carelessness instead of urgent concern.

The entire all-star ensemble is excellent, but Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, and Jonah Hill are the MVPs, while Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and Mark Rylance are of course also as engaging as ever. One of 2021’s must-see movies!

I rewatched Little Women for the first time since its theatrical run last night, and not only did I fall in love with it all over again, but I was also struck by just how wondrously well-acted the proposal scene is. Simply put, Ronan should’ve won Best Actress, and it’s a crime Chalamet wasn’t nominated.

Equally as egregious is the fact that the Academy similarly overlooked Florence Pugh, who, assisted by Gerwig’s studios and sincere screenwriting, revolutionizes the character of Amy…

The way I thought Meryl Streep was a co-lead in this for over five years only to find out today that she just has a one-scene cameo... I have been DUPED

Absolutely one of the most electric ensembles in cinematic history. Four of our greatest thespians at the height of their talents going head-to-head and deliriously diving into Stanley’s screenplay with power and poise - what more could you want? A firecracker of a film, and one that would make a fantastic double feature with Spotlight.

Netflix and Ryan Murphy’s The Prom truly proves to be the toe-tapping, tuneful tonic we need at the end of 2020 - a convivial celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and a powerful pushback to prejudice in any form, with style and soul to spare.

Let Them All Talk

There was indeed quite a lot of talking!

ittedly overlong, but I honestly could’ve spent another four hours or so with Streep, Wiest, and Bergen as they blithely banter with one another, so it’s somewhat excusable in the end. Women!
