Kelly Reichardt has such a gift for making the mundane meaningful, and Showing Up is no exception. With the help of an exceptional ensemble - Michelle Williams acing it as an antisocial artist as Hong Chau steals every scene - she wrings wonder out of one of the “worst weeks ever.”
Saw Avatar in 4DX for the first time last night (my seventh watch overall, and my first 4DX film since the 2014 Godzilla) and I’m literally sore today after being sprayed, shoved, and shook for three hours in my seat and isn’t that all we want from the movies?
(Still ∞/5 stars btw and it’ll be a long time before another movie makes me feel this way!!!)
I can’t believe I’ve seen this movie six times and no moment has lost its magic, every emotional beat hits just as hard, and I’m still overcome with chills scene after scene after scene.

Maybe one of the most rewatchable movies ever made??? I was absolutely obsessed with the original and saw it four times in theaters, but this was my fifth viewing of The Way of Water, and I already have a sixth watch planned for Saturday. Gotta get up to eight so I can I’ve spent 24 hours on Pandora (though I would also watch this on a loop if I could).

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is finally available to stream on Netflix, so here are my thoughts on why it’s one of the most successful feats of adaptation I’ve ever seen, and how it can bring about more respect for animation as an artform 🥰
A Man Called Otto is an old-fashioned crowdpleaser to its core, but it still mostly worked for me? Sure, the storytelling is a bit simplified, but it balances its humor and heartbreak beautifully, Tom Hanks is a hoot, Mariana Treviño steals EVERY scene (Best ing Actress nomination when), and there’s even some shockingly solid trans representation with a ing character (which feels like a first for a major studio movie?).
Some will still say it’s corny and cliché, but it’s so earnestly charming nonetheless and really won me over by the end. With a heart this huge, it’s hard to go wrong.
