Anora

Say what you will, but Igor is the only 'good' person in this. Everyone else is either between the neutral territory or just plain bad. But Igor represents the kind of Innocence that appears in this story of exploitation and the highs/lows of love. Even someone like Ani isn't a completely innocent person in the story: she's an addictive, morally questionable woman who thinks she can get everything without bringing fuck all to the table. Meanwhile someone like Toros is a difficult one to pinpoint on whether he's good or bad. The way I see it, in the same way as Igor or Garnik, Toros is simply trying to get the job done with no disturbances. But this is what Sean Baker does the best. He makes you question his characters intentions the entire time, with almost all being someone that you can sympathies with in one way or another. He's a director who doesn't really miss at all and will hopefully stay this way.
