2 perfect lead performances and about as well made a movie can be from a technical standpoint butting heads with poor pacing and just a weird  distracting male gaze about itself.

Not bad, but an undeniably disappointing follow up to Phantom Thread. I would’ve undoubtedly liked it more had I seen it in the cinema.

will probably get laughed at for saying this but it’s just really not for me i guess. had a hard time with it for the entire runtime and it doesn’t get close to capturing Mulholland drive for me. not a fan. have seen 4 David Lynch movies and am probably cool with only seeing these 4 (until I get around to twin peaks someday who knows)

That ending sheesh 

A fascinating push and pull almost fitting the structure of a rom com, that dives head first into a romantic, chaotic, at times hilarious story about needing to need each other. The score is breathtaking.

Jesus fucking Christ that last hour and a half. So glad I trusted him one last time. There’s some lightning in a bottle here.

One of the best theater experiences of my life. 200 people smiling/laughing the entire time. And deservedly so, it’s a pretty perfect comedy. Will probably just give it 5 stars on a rewatch

Probably the most impossible mission yet. Good god.

The first hour and fifteen ish really had me asking what the fuck was going on. There’s good in that first hour, enough good to make me emotional, but it’s also an endless exposition and almost flashback dump. It felt like such a venture from previous installments. What a drag it was. 

But then (and I saw this in an imax theater) Ethan hunt asks you to trust him and a sequence happens where the aspect ratio slowly changes and you’re thrust into what might be the best action set piece in the franchise. That’s when this movie hits its stride and they get back to the melt your face off quality these movies can reach. 

Can’t stress enough how nuts cruise went on these 2 major stunts. What the fuck is going through his head. You have to watch in imax, it’s just insane. Submarine made me audibly laugh with how insane it was. 

While I have my issues with it feeling different from the predecessors before it, I do think mission impossible has stayed successful this long because of its ability to continue to keep the ball rolling in a new way. Which this one does. 

Hard to get around the pacing, it’s pretty bad in the first half. and the fact is that with a franchise this deep you do miss some of the magic of the ing cast from “Rogue” or “Fallout”

Also, I DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ANGELA BASSET PRESIDENT OR NICK OFFERMAN GENERAL. So much of this movies problems revolve around scenes with characters that have never been players until now (they aren’t in it that much I’m lowkey trolling but also fr they had no place here)

Not the best of mission, not the worst. Wish they could’ve gone out on their highest note, but there’s no recreating fallout. The writings on the wall, it’s probably time to end it.

Simply put, it’s the greatest action movie ever made

Future of the mcu should just be 5 more of these like it’s mission impossible

Obviously has the mcu lows, but reaches highs I didn’t think this franchise would reach again. The emotional beat they try at the end really works, and the final 30 minutes are the best of the film. Never got too quippy or cringey and good performances across the board kept me engaged. Really pleasantly surprised!

Gets better everytime I watch it. It starts and never stops, baffling how everything packed into this works so well. At one point you go from the opera, to the underwater stunt, to the craziest bike chase scene ever. A perfectly executed action film with perhaps the greatest sequence of this whole 7 film saga (the opera sequence. Obviously an all timer). Not as good as fallout, but for mcquarries first of the franchise he really takes these to a whole new level. Can’t believe a new one comes out in a couple weeks.

Oh hell yeah this is where this shit gets real.

Not only some of the best sequences of the franchise, but the first of these movies to really take time developing these characters in an effective way. Leads to a great ending because of that fact. Makes the next 2 movies absolute all timers.

Tik Tok still clears easily but reels provides a great first course in my social media meal. The feast would not be the same without it, and I’m thankful for it. At times incredibly delicious, but good enough as a short appetizer.

On rewatch I really wanted to like this more than I do. But the movies after this one are where this shit gets real

So fucking good. Cruise has the lebron longevity playing Ethan hunt. He’s been phenomenal for decades. But this seriously stacks up as one of the 3 best in this franchise. Funnily enough from start to finish I had no clue where the story was going to go next and it absolutely ruled.

Airport sequence is phenomenal. God I can’t wait for the final film

Every year there is either one or a few movies that remind me why I fell in love with this art form in the first place. Sinners is one of them.
