I'm not the the biggest fan of the original animated movie (always found it extremely overrated) but wasn't the point of it that you weren't supposed to separate the family? It felt like someone didn't understand the assignment...
Just another soulless Disney live action film that only works if you're overly nostalgic.
This late entry in Teruo Ishii's career is a pretty standard revenge flick done on a budget. He shot it straight for video and didn't incorporate a lot of his weirder aspects to it. It's a decent enough watch that I had a good time with... but I doubt if I'll it later.
I completely get why many would absolutely hate this movie. It’s apparently based on a video game in Japan that I’ve ittedly never played or even seen, so how close it is I have no idea. Even without that knowledge, I can clearly see that the movie is designed to feel like you’re sitting in the room and watching someone play the game. Visuals are discolored, emulating how many games would have limited colors during the 90s era on PC…
