Yakuza Graveyard

Severely overlooked. Effortlessly stylish in every aspect. Plucked this one out of the watchlist on a whim, and pleasantly surprised at how fucking good this is. Jumped into Fukasku’s filmography with one of his more underrated gems, will definitely look to prioritise some of his more acclaimed work after this, the likes of his Battle Royale etc.

Such an interesting watch. Although fictional, feels like such an authentic ‘behind-the-scenes’ documentary on the production of an indie film. The chaotic, disorganised nature of it. Worth noting Miles Davis’ gorgeous jazz score here too.

As good as d. A masterpiece, even. Infinitely iconic, such integral cinema. Clear to why this is widely regarded as one of the all-time greats, really—it defined spaghetti westerns. I mean, that graveyard scene alone speaks for itself. The epitome of cool, truly exceptional.

Intricate songwriting, godly production, and if we’re being honest here, the glaze is warranted. Quite insane they sound this good live. Thom Yorke playing all the instruments—prancing round like a hyena—all the while delivering a remarkable vocalist performance. One of the greatest bands ever; this live performance alone is evidence of that.

A monumental achievement on a colossal magnitude. I can safely say my expectations were exceeded. Dare I say it—the greatest sequel of all time? It’s definitely up there. Timothee Chalamet really stepped up and delivered an exceptional career-best performance, whilst also Austin Butler potentially being one of the greatest villains of all time. This incredibly impressive story simply oozes excellence, Villeneuve has produced something special here. Seeing this in IMAX was a complete spectacle. Yes, it is really that good.

Blow Out

A anxiety-inducing mystery, pieced together using sound. So cleverly constructed, this is one of De Palma’s more intricate works. Obviously, a pleasure on the eye, kind of a given with De Palma really.
