Mizoguchi’s tragic fairy tale style translates so well into color. This heartbreaking tales hurt so much worse because of his sensual and tender direction throughout. And Kyō’s performance is so delicately rendered- you can feel the empathy that the actress has for her character, and it makes the little moments shine.
