BLEAK WEEK is almost here. In less than one week - on Sunday 15th June - we begin our full-force celebration of cinematic despair, devastation and beauty. This is one of the most exciting programmes we’ve ever hosted, a festival of sorts, with director Q&A’s, INTRO’s and much more!

It’s just one week to go until BLEAK WEEK: CINEMA OF DESPAIR descends upon the Prince Charles Cinema, and we couldn't be more excited. From Saturday 15th to Friday 21st June, we’re diving headfirst into the shadows with a packed programme of some of the most harrowing, illuminating and unforgettable films ever made. This is more than a season – it’s a full-blown festival of bleak cinema, complete with Q&Asspecial guest introsUK premieres and more. Presented in partnership with our friends at the American Cinematheque, who are currently hosting their own Bleak Week in Los Angeles, this is a celebration of cinema’s power to confront, unsettle and reflect. And yes - there are still a few surprise announcements and unannounced guests up our sleeve.

From animated trauma (WATERSHIP DOWNWHEN THE WIND BLOWS) to raw emotional devastation (AFTERSUNSHAMEKESNIL BY MOUTHTYRANNOSAUR), the week spans every shade of darkness. You’ll find towering masterpieces like COME AND SEETHERE WILL BE BLOODCHILDREN OF MENSORCERER, and visionary horror from ISOLAIMAGES, THE LAST LAUGH (with live score),.British grit and social realism is represented by GET CARTER10 RILLINGTON PLACEBLEAK MOMENTS (Q&A with Mike Leigh), and the freshly restored SCUM (screening from a brand new 4K restoration). There’s also hallucinatory brilliance with EX MACHINA (Q&A with Alex Garland), NAKED (Q&A with Mike Leigh), and a rare big screen outing for TWIN PEAKS: SEASON 3, EPISODE 8. And to cap it off? THE DEVIL (1972), introduced live by none other than Robert Eggers. Plus, the mystery remains around our BLEAK WEEK MYSTERY MOVIE on 35mm - dare you discover it?

With just one week to go, the countdown to BLEAK WEEK is officially on - and tickets are flying. NAKED and EX MACHINA are already sold out, with plenty more dangerously close.
