I feel like pragmatic people will enjoy this, as for the hopeless romantics among us - not so much.

Off the bat, this is a quaint film.

That being said, the film does lack the lush cozy feelings of a romantic movie. But I feel like that was intentional.

This is equal parts romance and equal parts drama. It is grounded and tethered to reality.

It misses some of that cheesy sentimentality and whimsy that takes romance films from good…

While the animated film is perfect, and tells the story better in a shorter amount of time, I still can't deny just how good of a time I had with this.

The story remains great and this version is wonderfully updated. This will work well with a double bill of the original film.

Complementary in the best way. The music is good but some of it could be integrated better. The intro felt clunky but it finds it feet and the comedy wins you over.

Reneé Rapp is a star.

Can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to watching this but this was a necessary film to get made.

What is pretty interesting now is how this is clearly foundational in the growth and rise of the current crime movie industrial complex.

That being said, Charlize truly deserved to win her award because she gave a stellar performance. Would love to see her back in a dramatic role of this nature again.
