In 50 Showdowns we’ve had one tribute to a city (New York) but never a quest to find your top ten films made in or about a country. Our down-under favorite Toni Collette is soon to scare the Babadook out of everybody in Hereditary (opening this month), so we’re celebrating her homeland Australia and everything in it. Throw on a 30 Odd Foot of Grunts album, because we’re doing our dance steps, our way. Priscilla, Muriel, Max, Chopper, Babe—the whole Ned Kelly gang’s here. The rules? Well, Moulin Rouge! was set in Paris but filmed in Australia by an Australian director with a largely Australian cast, so we’ll leave creative interpretation of “Australian” up to you. Mate.
