A sweet simple story about the life of one man. While THE MONKEY was a darkly satirical story about the nihilism that “everyone dies,” this uplifting tale says, “yes, you will die, so how do you live before that happens?”

Elements of this story felt very akin in some ways to HEARTS IN ATLANTIS (another small film adapted from a King short story I wish more people appreciated).

This movie pays homage to just about every film in this continuity, and I am so glad I did a rewatch leading up to this film. I may need to sit on it and watch it again, but it may be my favorite of this continuity.

This. Was. Badass.

This is the third female assassin I’ve seen this year following “Gunpowder Milkshake” and “The Protege,” and “Kate” is hands-down the best of the bunch in practically and technically every way. While sharing genre tropes with both these films, they are used to stronger effect here.

This neon-washed neo-noir shot on location in Tokyo takes great advantage of its setting. The action is hard-R and shows the missed opportunities of what Mary Elisabeth Winstead could have truly…
