This reminds me of the episode from Star Trek: The Original Series, ‘Shore Leave’, when the crew meets characters from Alice in Wonderland on a forest planet. It’s a recipe of exciting, fantastical visual ideas that includes everything from talking roses to Wizard of Oz-style horses. Even a helicopter. That makes me want to sing about this movie the way Catherine Deneuve sings about her cake.
I love Jacques Demy, he’s a lot like Donkey Skin’s impossible dressmaker. Whether he’s making a dress that shines like the stars, has the color of the moon or the color of the sun — he somehow manages to do it.
