It's interesting how Memphis, but USA broadly, is seen as tangibly inferior or at least relatively unremarkable compared to the couple's home city of Yokohama. It is a place frozen in time at the summit of American cultural hegemony, but it is run-down, tired, and empty. The United States of America as a country on its knees in poverty, racism, and social discontent kept alive and dreaming by the magic and influence of The King and the past that never was.

"How could I show courage in ? It would be absurd, no rhyme or reason. I'd slack off, get too comfortable."

Africa as a playground of coffee beans and profits for the white demon's taking, or so it seems to the parasitic, greedy fish until it finds itself out of water. Alone in the desert, surrounded by insanity and smoke, the land fights back. The senseless arrogance of the colonizer is the inherent and unstoppable force that demands its own destruction. The germs of rot must be removed.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise transcends his divine role as Jesus Christ by finally crushing the Trinity with the masculine power of liberal internationalism and defiance of the impossible. He is God, singular and almighty, and the rest of the cast exists to serve Him. It is a mistake to look for profundity and (valuable) meaning in the narrative of these films. Politically they reinforce the worst of American values, exceptionalism, militarism, etc. But as far as bread and circuses go, it's a pretty good time at The Movies.
