Showdown 18: Fashion & designers in film.
Take a ride on Bill Cunningham’s bicycle down Everybody Street and round up your favorite fashion films to send down your own personal runway. From blue suede shoes to blue steel, from the sidewalks of Paris to the back streets of Bangladesh, let no shoulder-pad, high-waisted tro or underpaid garment worker go unconsidered in this quest for sartorial screen gems.
OK, my least comfortable showdown list so far. I normally easily reach 20 titles per list but I was hard pressed to reach 15 here - does hair (Shampoo) really count as fashion? - and some of these are pretty ropey; yes I'm especially looking at you Prêt-à-Porter and Smashing Time.

I've focused specifically on films about the fashion industry, clothes makers, models, fashion photographers and shopaholics obsessed with style. I see some lists are more loose, focusing on characters in film with great fashion sense, but I think that's moving too far away from this showdown's remit. By focusing on what I have it has proved to me that a) I don't watch many films about fashion and b) those that I do watch are made/set in the '60s.
