incredibly bittersweet documentary. lovely to see the joy that these men get from making quilts and that the children get from receiving them, but also a brutal reminder of the somewhat arbitrary nature of prison reform services with regards to who “deserves” rehabilitation

Unbelievable cosmic intervention that this should be on one of the five tv channels I have in my hotel room, after an incredibly hard 24 hours physically and emotionally! I used to devour this film as a pre-teen, I think because of all the musicals I watched, this was one where the protagonist was a woman who clearly has some chaotic queer yearning combined with an earnest rejection of femininity that the men around her accepted, which compared to Marilyn Monroe etc was just really refreshing and fun! I grew a real fondness for Doris Day’s character who is just incredibly likeable and charming (also the song ‘Secret Love’ is basically a coming-out song). The film has its obvious flaws being from the time it was made, and the ending where she has an enemies-to-lovers hetero marriage? BUT that’s preceded by a horse race through the desert to win Katie back to her? Confusing, romantic, and chaotic, some of the core characteristics of queerness 🤠

If you’re going to put someone in a fat suit (which, regardless of the character is Not A Thing we should be doing), then at least make it mean something. It was a complete waste of make up and costume’s time, it served absolutely nothing. Minus half a star for that alone. Other than that, JW Anderson’s costume design was absolutely stellar chef’s kiss gorgeous.

The aesthetic was nice and the characters sexy and the plot interesting enough but the surrealist moments for the sake of making it
more visually appealing fell short and Drew Starkey’s character didn’t compel me at all. But Daniel Craig was VERY good! So,,, mixed feelings
