Karsten’s review published on Letterboxd:
so sterile on a rewatch, which is proof how far relying on easter eggs and references can take you. started off thinking this is a mostly inoffensive thing that’s probably great for the kids but by the time i was 45 minutes deep it hit me just how phoned in it was. nearly every creative choice can be owed to nintendo. every meaningless line of dialogue, every lazy song choice, we’ve all seen it before in some other more original animated film targeted for families. guess we got the peaches song. this got the job done, it stuck to a formula to such an extent that it’s hard not to call it watchable, but at a certain point this is just colorful slop
