Hey guys so the Paramount Smurfs movie trailer just dropped, and I’m here to talk about it.
Uhhh…. WHAT WAS THAT?
First of all I have nothing against Rhianna at all. I mean I like her music, and I thought she gave a decent performance in Home, but she doesn’t sound great here. She sounds so clueless and kind of bored. She just seems like a big miscast.
Secondly the plot. Why are we going to the real world again? Did Paramount not learn from how people felt about Sony live action movies? Why do we need to do this again. When this was announced I was the tiniest bit curious on how Paramount’s take on the Smurfs, but they literally just copied Sony. Also there is an evil version of Papa Smurf for some reason. Also I know a lot of people didn’t like last year’s Garfield Movie, but at least that movie didn’t copy the same plot as the live action films. It just feels lazy.
Third the humor. Look I’ve noticed that I’m usually pretty immune to cringe humor most times, and I find most things funny. This isn’t it chief 😕I mean there is an influencer Smurf. How does that even work? Is there even technology in the Smurf’s world? Why does this give me these questions. Plus I know people have pointed this out, but saying Smurf a lot isn’t funny. Maybe if you are 5 years old, but I’m not. Also this is directed by the same guy as Shrek the Third which is totally known for being funny, and not an insult to comedy.
Finally I guess I can say what I liked about this trailer. I think John Goodman as Papa Smurf is great casting that I’m surprised it wasn’t thought of before. The actual designs of the Smurfs look pretty nice too. They look way better than the live action ones.
Final thoughts yeah this looks bad. If anything I feel bad for genuine fans of the Smurfs. I don’t think I’ve seen any fan of them in my life. It feels like less and less people actually like them with each ing movie about them. Also Paramount screwed themselves with their horrible release dates. As if this didn’t have enough going against it in July with Fantastic Four: First Steps, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Superman. These were impressions people are having with it also seem like this is gonna be a massive bomb. ittedly I don’t like seeing animated movies flop even if I don’t like them. Yeah this looks like a potential stinker in what seems to be an entirely improvement in animated films from last year.
Also one last thing. The reason I post my thoughts on paint drying and not the actual movies is because I hate that it s me as seeing it already, and I’d rather wait till they actual release.
