Psycho III

I saw this in the video shop many years ago and was surprised to discover that not only had they made a sequel to Hitchcock's classic, but a third one too!
I had seen the shower scene from the original at far too young an age and it semi traumatised me, so the idea that I'd get to see something like that again, but in technicolour absolutely terrified me. The notion of technique and tone was of course beyond me…

"Survival in the wilderness is a matter of heart not hardware!"

At first I was wondering why this so called forgotten film from Don Coscarelli would be quite so forgotten. I mean it's true, until recently I'd literally never heard of it before, probably cropping up on a podcast or whatnot, but upon looking at it, it seemed like a film that should've slotted in just fine with other films of its ilk, and been just as well ed. It's getting harder to dig out any half decent anthologies these days so was quite looking forward to checking out this part Severin produced collection of tales with some tasty names attached.
Six films with no real thematic thread bar a rather pointless wraparound that sees a lonely woman called Enola(!) wander into an abandoned theatre where she meets Udo Kier acting like a puppet, introducing each tale, all of which relate to stories inspired by Grand Guignol theatre I…

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

It wasn't until I came on here and started wondering why everyone was logging Friday the 13th films that I realised what date it was. And Jason's birthday too?! Is that an actual thing that's mentioned in one of the films?
Anyway I didn't want to miss out on all the fun so opted for this one which I've only seen a couple of times but really liking last time. I dont know where it stands as a fan…

Proof that this is so much more than its one shot "gimmick", writer James Cummings, director Philip Barantini and co creator Stephen Graham (and others) clearly realising these characters were just too good not to explore further, follow on from that one eventful and very stressful night in Point North.
Far from feeling like a cash in, (four very taut, emotional episodes in themselves) this is very much an attempt at delving deeper into the lives of the other employees…

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum

Back on my found footage kick is this popular South Korean entry that I keep thinking is called Gangnam: Haunted Asylum!
I didnt realise that the Gonjiam Asylum was an actual thing. Considered one of the freakiest and most haunted locations in the world, the building itself is an incredibly imposing brutalist structure already rich in spooky history, so it makes this a clever setting to base what is ostensibly a K horror Blair Witch, as a group of YouTubers…
