The Swordsman of All Swordsmen

1968

★★★½ Liked

An early Joseph Kuo Wuxia revenge story.

Didn't have very high hopes for this, but really liked it for what it is. Sure, young warrior avenges his family against famed Kung Fu warriors isn't exactly a novel idea for a film, even in 1968, but I appreciated that Kuo tried to give it a bit of moral depth (don't expect a treatise, it is an action film obviously). The action is well done with some fun swordplay, and maybe it is me having watch mostly late 70s/80s Kung Fu lately but I found the lack of magic and silliness refreshing.
