After the disappointment of Salem's Lot, I just had to go back to gold standard.
It's been long enough that I the general direction of things while still being pleasantly surprised by how great it is. It is just a masterclass of tension building, slow and steady things just get a a bit more unhinged as the film progresses. The film ramping up to a boiling point is so masterfully done, it hardly matters what the finale is.
And what a setting where it all takes place. Even with an insane Jack Nicholson, the hotel clearly steals the show.
