It is hard to do new things in film a about The Great War. It has basically all been done before, and doubly so if you use one of the most famous books about World War I as source material, and even more so when an earlier adaptation is an Oscar winner.
Only two things to do in that situation: search for a gimmick to separate your film from its predecessors (see 1917), or just embrace the fact you got a classic story and try to tell it as well as you can. This film chooses the latter. Nothing too spectacular to distract from the gripping story, just very decent craftsmanship to bring it to the screen.
