I have so much to say about this movie that I've decided to launch a YouTube channel. Watch my Final Reckoning review here and subscribe here.

I'm so pleasantly surprised by Anora's Oscar sweep tonight. I knew it stood a chance for Best Picture, but it's still an unconventional choice for the Academy. As soon as Sean Baker won that second award, I knew the big win was coming, and I knew I couldn't wait until April for the Criterion release to rewatch it. And it hits just as good the second time. Especially Yura Borisov's performance. I'm so happy he was nominated. Watching Baker and Mikey…
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Most of this was generic slasher fare, but then the third act POPPED OFF. The world needs more telekinetic final girls. And skeletal Jason was rad! More importantly, the only time I have ever been genuinely sad during a Friday the 13th movie was when the nerdy girl spent all that time giving herself a makeover, but then got killed before anyone got to see her.
I only watched this because I'm going to DC in a few days for a press event celebrating the digital release. Honestly, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I really like the idea of a dude who blackmails the CIA into getting training, but realizes he sucks at guns, so he has to use his big brain to kill people in creative ways. It was criminal to cast Rachel Brosnahan in a typical dead wife role, though.
Seven Spoiler-Free Thoughts:
1. Not my favorite of the trilogy, but one of my favorite MCU third acts.
2. The whole cast gave 110%. At one point, Zoe Saldaña delivered the best crazy eyes I have ever seen.
3. Will Poulter was so good and I am super bummed he wasn't in it more.
4. No movie can ever use "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" again.
5. Maybe Quantumania set the bar insanely low, but I thought the CGI looked great…
