ok wow there is so much i love about this movie. some fav things: the shot of the black umbrellas in the rain on the cobbled street, the way tears looked falling down peoples face, lily rose depp contorting, pretty much anything lily did actually, shadow of the hand moving across the city, willem dafoe isaac newton name drop, the overall symmetry every time a door/ window opened, shot of nick walking down the pathway at night, aaron tj blood…
i can’t believe it took me so long to get to this. a wonderfully accurate depiction of the stance of an artist, the value of beauty, the alchemy of art and commerce colliding. fuckery, sex, intelligence, great songs, drugs, dirt, the desire for more, sunglasses 24/7, hating la and sometimes really fucking hating eachother.

Yesterday i watched Vivre Sa Vie and was reminded that i needed to watch this film. Anna Karina cries whilst watching it at the cinema and I cried whilst watching it this morning at home at 6am (coz jet lag). What a beautiful and tragic movie that amplifies the power of THE FACE on screen and the physicality of expression. Dreyer is potent, indulgent and dramatic as fuck. I was completely enthralled. I wish i’d watched this sooner in life.
