The standout element in this film, even as it veers into the dull and plodding, is Senta Berger, whose face always tells you just enough of what she's thinking, and not a bit more. The casting of Alain Delon really serves to gloss over some questionable plot points with Berger's Christiane, because anyone faced with a spectre of beauty like Delon might rearrange their life choices a little.
