my taste in film is unoriginal and uninspired

thank god Timmy Tim had the guts to stand up to big Folk Music™️
But actually amazed that a film whose subject is not only alive but was also consulted by the filmmakers can feel so generic. Dylan going electric (spoiler alert) was actually a pretty significant event in music history and ties in so much to the political and social landscape of the time. It would be been so much more interesting to see that explored instead of a love triangle. Also insane love to follow up the beautiful angel who plays Joan Baez with Timothy doing an (accurate) impression of Bob Dylan’s terrible singing.
A script clearly written for the stage, messily translated to the screen by a writer/director who was perhaps not quite ready to lead the project. The theatrical dialogue feels awkward and often melodramatic when staged within the very realist world of the film. Penn gives his all but its undermined by awkward, choppy, editing and a far less adept screen partner. Unfortunately, Dakota Johnston does not have the range or the screen presence to carry a film of this nature.…
