god, i’m so obsessed with this. the surrealist beginning is one of my favorite things ever. a woman with amnesia and a syndrome that physically overwhelms her while looking at art; paired with a hypnotically tense score and cool, strange imagery a la her warping into paintings or…making out with a fish? and it all progresses into this insane cat and mouse game between a detective and a serial rapist/killer.

we start off in the time of the crusades, with a bunch of teutonic knights slaughtering a group of “witches.” but you can’t have teutonic knights without it feeling very Dark Souls—so i’m immediately hyped as hell. there’s a horse that just keeps kicking around a decapitated head, it’s chaos, but i’m giddy. 

and when we fast forward to the present day, it doesn’t disappoint…

a neat little 80’s sci-fi/fantasy anthology flick about a sentient green orb that corrupts you, gives you power, melts you, mutates you…but sometimes you end up being fine? well, i guess it kind of just does whatever it wants. 

i dig the animation, love the visuals, but its lacking in pretty much everything other than aesthetics. found myself pretty bored by the plots of each individual story, but i liked the skeleton zombies in “B-17” and the aliens doing alien…

feeling bleh again, but that just means it’s the perfect time to give my brain a break with more random movies! 

this is a weird one. feels almost exactly like the low-budget, 2010’s, straight to steaming horror slop you’d expect with some neat aesthetics thrown in. they were kind of cooking with that washed out pink filter/lighting 

didn’t really expect this to be a teen pregnancy horror from the synopsis, but i’d have to imagine the concept of…

wow, i’m really just watching straight bangers lately. this is everything i ever could have wanted from another Stuart Gordon directed, Brian Yuzna produced H.P. Lovecraft adaptation starring Jeffrey Combs. i might even prefer it to Re-animator. 

an absolute blast of a cosmic horror—you get a machine that stimulates the pineal gland, allowing you to see horrific and weird little alien creatures that exist all around us, from beyond what we can normally sense. it also just bathes the room…

holy fuck this movie is so fun! i’ve regretted missing it on the last drive-in for a while; so happy to finally be getting around to it. 

an extremely Evil Dead inspired flick, with some pretty groovy references, without ever feeling like a ripoff. the low, grainy quality is such a vibe and makes it feel all the more cursed in the best way possible. the ghosts/possessed are so freaky; all the effects are incredible but i’m especially in love with…
