Wish there was a decent release as it would make a great splash at Bleak Week. Murakami adapting his own cult novel plays like a cross between KIDS & Jesus’s Son, as he follows late teen boredom in a dead end Japanese port town. Much like the difficulties that faced releasing ‘Looking for Mr Goodbar’ this film is wall to wall American music hits playing in the diagetic spaces, hinting at a more exciting world outside of the frame these characters are trapped in.
