De Cinema’s review published on Letterboxd:
MY STOLEN PLANET + A MOVE
De Cinema and Studio Sarab present an evening of contemporary Iranian cinema, curated and introduced by filmmaker and curator Maryam K. Hedayat. Studio Sarab, a newly founded multidisciplinary production and distribution platform established by Hedayat, focuses on ecofeminist and diasporic voices. For this first collaboration, we present two films that explore the themes of memory, resistance, and identity in contemporary Iran through both poetic and political perspectives. The screenings will be followed by an in-depth conversation with Hedayat.
The evening opens with the short film A MOVE, in which Elahe Esmaili returns to her hometown of Mashhad to help her parents move after forty years. Inspired by the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, she dreams of more than just a new apartment—she longs for a deeper, existential shift. The film has been praised as “astonishing in how natural and well-covered the observational scenes are, and how quietly revelatory the act of going bareheaded is in this time and place.”
