Alfred Noble invented dynamite.”

Knowledge is hunger. Knowledge is power. Knowledge is a gaping maw. Knowledge is an unquenchable thirst. Knowledge is a void that we are free to throw our entire beings into. Knowledge is a parasitic figure, eager for more. Knowledge is a child asking “why?” again and again and again and again and again. Knowledge is that child, decades later, screaming “why?” again and again and again and again and again. Knowledge is the screams echoing through the halls long before the damage is done. Knowledge is the window panes rattling. Knowledge is a lit fuse flying away from our regretful hands.  Knowledge is preventative. Knowledge is an accelerant. Knowledge is a panic. Knowledge is a comfort. Knowledge is the ruler and destroyer of the world. Knowledge is everything. Everything we were, everything we are, everything we are becoming.

What does it say of us that so many of the brightest minds of science helped sign humanity’s death certificate decades before so many of us were even breathing? Do we really want to know the answer to that?

Of course. Naturally. Undoubtedly. The euphoric rush of knowing is too tantalizing not to find out.

Oppenheimer is the enveloping culmination of Nolan’s prolific career into something so sharp and bright. Previous films collapse into ash beside it. Where the hell do we go from here?

It’s time to take in the sheets, Nolan.
