Maia’s review published on Letterboxd:
Not at all what I was expecting!
This movie is very silly and even endearing at times, which is an odd qualifier to place on a grisly, art house, body horror flick. It takes a while for the film's themes to settle in - really, they only came to me in the very last moments. But what Titane gives us is a gross, dark, erotic musing about love, humanity, and Otherness. It's a deeply emotional, visceral film - but it's also intellectual. It presents to us the idea of body (the woman's body in particular) as technology and the many ways humanity is contrasted and elevated by this. Major influences from posthumanism here, finally explored through a woman filmmaker. Donna Haraway would be proud.
I don't want to say to much more - but if you can stomach it, Titane is a must watch!
