how is this a real fucking movie

yeah , its whatever. extra half-star for 4DX actually clutching up and for being potentially the most joy i’ve ever experienced in a cinema thanks to my undying love of the animated trilogy - seeing a couple of these scenes realised in live action made me tear up

john wick is incapable of speaking in sentences longer than five words

definitely a one and done kind of film. can’t say i was all too interested on a rewatch , whereas i returned to civil war four times in theatres alone.

so difficult to even convey my feelings on this. i adore so many of the individual parts, it’s obviously shot to perfection, and i was never bored. but the humour just never landed ( which is incredibly unusual for wes ) and the plot is nothing anderson hasn’t done before in films that are far better. really wish i liked this more because the characters are so charming and the epilogue is lovely. not bad by any means, but even asteroid city ( which i initially wasn’t huge on, but would like to revisit ) left me with more to chew on. i think forgettable is the best description here. has a lot to say, and not bad by any means ( it’s honestly quite good in many  aspects ) but utterly sauceless.

what’re we doing here.

the excitement that comes with a premiere cannot be underestimated. with that being said , take everything i’m about to say with a grain of salt. i’m ecstatic and elated that i got to experience this film as early as possible - let alone in IMAX

the final reckoning is an experience. that is neither good nor bad , but it’s accurate. you will feel this film for three hours , it is electric in IMAX and features ( in my opinion , as a lifelong fan of this franchise ) two of the greatest set pieces cruise has ever produced. the shock value of the latter being practical makes it phenomenal : but the sheer cinematic artistry on display in that first big IMAX sequence is something i don’t think i’ll ever forget. it is a work of physical storytelling genius 

for all of that praise , i return to this film being an experience more than anything. i fully intend to rewatch this with my mother , whom i’ve shared these films with since i was young. i honestly nearly didn’t attend this evening out of the disappointment that i wouldn’t get to share this final chapter with her. but upon rewatch , i could easily see the novelty wearing off and seeing the film’s storytelling faults clear as day. for example , major events from this film and ESPECIALLY dead reckoning ( which , if i may remind you , this is in all shapes and forms but name - a second part to ) are legitimately mentioned once , if at all

this hurts the film as a supposed finale to the franchise - but doesn’t take away from the spectacle of a three hour romp that never once lost me ( an impressive feat in this day and age , when more and more films have to justify their runtime - AND after dead reckoning was such a disappointment to me )

not much to complain about right now. i got what i wanted from this film and have an incredible , cherished experience to top it all off. thank you mcQ and cruise for your tireless efforts for the art of the blockbuster. if this winds up being one of cruise’s last films , as the themes of the story indicate , he’s going out with one hell of a bang.

with volume four getting a date today , i revisited the most iconic - and arguably my favourite - of LDR’s catalogue. setting aside what i consider gratuitous nudity ( i think there’s a place for it in the story , but the usage is excessive in my opinion ) , alberto mielgo directs the SHIT out of this. absolutely stunning composition with what was , and remains , a revolutionary style. check out mielgo’s trailer for watch dogs : legion , and his original concepts for into the spiderverse … the man is a modern visionary 

regardless : i’m so happy this show exists. i’ve been watching since volume one , so to see it continue with no signs of slowing down as a platform for exciting new animation houses to tell mature stories makes me so happy. go check this out if you haven’t happened to see it.

i’ve never seen my friends and i depicted so faithfully in a film , flaws and all. greg has spent his whole life trying to belong to everyone that he belongs to no one — he’s immature and abrasive , reacts like everything is an attack on him. i regrettably can’t say i’m much different !!! but his friendship with rachel is steadfast , even in the worst of times he says the awful things he does because he loves her. not an excuse , he’s an asshole , but it’s refreshing to see a protagonist in what’s essentially a Y/A coming of age film allowed to be so mean spirited and still understand why. love this movie.

conceptually right up my alley. i think it’s overlong and undercooked , but the central development is always engaging and george mckay is amazing as always.

fucking sublime. you don’t need me to tell you how much of a technical and performing marvel this is. incredibly authentic to british youth , and i should know. thought i’d successfully battled throughout the whole series without crying — but that last scene is a force of nature. never had tears form so fast. really incredible stuff all around.

regrettably , i didn’t finish ne zha from 2019. i found the whole thing to be incredibly soulless and unrewarding. going into ne zha 2 , i had nothing but those 45 - 50 minutes of the aforementioned and the plot summary from wikipedia. 

though my expectations were heightened by the truly remarkable box office success this film is experiencing — i didn’t think , with the same creative team as the 2019 film , much would change.

perhaps i didn’t give the first film a proper chance , maybe it gets better after what i saw , but as for what i saw tonight — ne zha 2 is one of the greatest triumphs in animation , and dare i say , the greatest sequel i have ever seen. 

much of what i disliked about ne zha is present in the first quarter of ne zha 2. though during a particular encounter in water — the film takes a drastic turn for the better. suddenly , the silly demon is grappling with genocide , racial purity and a religious coup. the tonal shift this film undergoes is jarring , but it wouldn’t be the same without it. we’re thrust into ne zha’s shoes through such a bold new direction. all of this builds to the final hour or so , which i’m confident in saying , stands tall amongst avengers endgame’s portals scene and the battle at the black gate from the return of the king. 

this is not hyperbole. the film weaves setup for a grand finale to the trilogy with cathartic payoff for what we’ve experienced for the last two hours. i truly believe this will stand as a modern classic in the conversation of animation — as it very well should. 

i can not wait for ne zha 3 , the storylines and character arcs they teased have me itching for a rousing conclusion. absolutely stellar.

osgood perkins is burdened by the curse of a stellar first half followed by the biggest eye roll you’ve ever experienced.

the first scene of this had me convinced he’d done it , after longlegs disappointed me , he’d won me over. and for a while — he had me. i like a lot of what’s happening in the first quarter plus , but jesus christ does it just all fall apart. 

an enjoyable watch , it’s at its very best when it’s all out camp ( because genuinely , there’s a few great laughs in here ) but i can’t help seeing the MASSIVE waste of potential.

a quintessential childhood film for me - so nostalgia bias certainly plays a part here. i had all the toys , followed the DVD bonus feature to get astro’s haircut , my parents even showed me the anime. i was locked the fuck in. i still think the mythos of the character is cool as hell all these years later , would love to see him make a return to mainstream pop culture

this is obviously a very westernised version of the lore , but alas , i’m a fan of mostly everything they’re doing here. absolutely heartbreaking ending knowing imagi studios fell apart immediately after this . . . i would’ve killed for that sequel as a kid.

has as much bite as you’d expect from disney making a political thriller in 2025. the most cohesive the MCU has felt in a long time , setting up a lot of threads that we at least know will pay off. harrison ford and anthony mackie are clearly giving it their all and sam continues to be a compelling character. everything with isaiah is inarguably the highlight , could’ve been far better had his arc been prioritised. it’s a good time for someone as locked in to this universe as me — not sure how it will hold up on its own.
