irably resisting the expectations of a Chevy Chase vehicle entitled “Funny Farm”, George Roy Hill’s final film is barely a comedy but it’s pleasantly patient and restrained. A cut above entry in the Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House collective.

Director’s Cut.. Barely the theatrical version (by all s this is drastically different). First time I can recall seeing an officially released cut that includes VHS sourced dailies but it inadvertently enriches the watch, stapling the film to its troubled production history.

Plays like a Spielberg helmed episode of Amazing Stories with all of the craftsmanship you would expect. Officially a remake of A Guy Named Joe but feels equally indebted to Only Angels Have Wings. Forgot about the “Marlboro Man” of it all.
