I feel…complicated about this film. Extremely funny, but also after a certain point, it became more tragedy than comedy to me. In a way where the finale didn’t make me laugh as much as it made me feel depressed. Maybe I’m feeling too much sympathy for Craig. Because he is acting bizarre. But also…sometimes it isn’t fully malicious or cruel or even completely his fault. And then I start seeing him like Larry Gopnik in A Serious Man, as Job…

Listen…it’s not good. It’s baffling and deeply uncomfortable, but it’s certainly not as offensive as I feared. Like it’s more just a bad idea. But the blocking is well crafted, Audiard still has a talented eye for composition and coloring, there’s some really good shots. It just feels like a fever dream more than a real movie. Everything feels very…poorly thought out in of story and song construction.
