Spit my water out when buddy flicked the switch on his VR headset so you could see his eyes through the screen.

Avoided watching this one because it seemed preposterous, and honestly a little wackass. I mean chainsaw hands I can get down with… but a fucking chainsaw head too?! The concept had me rolling my eyes so far back in my head, you could see my optic nerves.

However, upon seeing even just the opening credit sequence, I instantly knew I was wrong. I’m so glad my nerd friends were persistent in their attempts to convince me of its greatness. I forget just how far you need to suspend your disbelief sometimes, because after all, anime is meant to push the boundaries of reality to the extremes.

Being a recovering metalhead, I approve of this soundtrack. 🤘 It’s always surprising to see how much money Québecois productions are willing to sink in to music rights. 

Also, having worked in Montréal kitchens most of my life, I would say this is a decently accurate depiction of what it’s like.

“When we leap into the unknown, we prove we are free” really feels like the central thesis for this film. Great use of free will Francis, I commend you.

Emma Stone has never looked more like an anime character. 

Justin Theroux has proven himself deserving of more lead roles. 

Sonoya Mizuno has never looked better than she does with that hairdo.

The attention to detail in this is off the charts. The most innovative and imaginative visuals with a well-written story about survival, and what it actually means to be alive. Well-rounded, developed characters in a beautifully sculpted world of wonder, where the fear of the unknown lurks around every corner. 

Nothing much recently has left me in shock and awe like this series has… It’s chock-full of tiny little things that they definitely didn’t need to put in there, but they did anyway, and I’m amazed. Hats off to the creative team on this one! 100% will watch this again. Absolutely heinous that it got cancelled for a second season.

I almost took up smoking weed again just for this show.

I’m always impressed how skilled Bong is at slipping in these laughs here and there, even if whatever is happening on screen is painfully crushing. All hail the king of dark comedy!

Budget Hugh Jackman is exactly what I needed to cure my hangover.

Cute, short-haired girl goes around doing good deeds for random people; this movie is the Danish Amélie.

NWR must intend for all his films (at least since Drive) to be set in some parallel universe where only neon lights exist and people barely talk and everyone smokes and wants to kill each other.

I really liked it, but I would rather see some more Pusher-esque or Valhalla Rising-type stuff, especially since he’s returned to his Danish roots after all those years in Hollywood. Just because Drive was his biggest success doesn’t mean every project that follows has to be the same. 

That being said, I will gladly watch anything this man puts out. It could literally have no dialogue or storyline, just a bunch of people squealing like pigs; as long as those juicy shots continue to be framed and lit so masterfully. 

I did start getting a little dizzy from all those rotating 360 shots. Could probably cut the run time in half if they didn’t do so much slow panning.

The way scenes transition feels like it’s meant to disorient or misdirect you, completely denying your expectations, making you question what’s real and what’s not. Nothing like some good ol’ choppy, dream-like sequences to make you question even your own sanity. 

There are endless possibilities with animation, so I don’t know how I was still surprised that an anime could pull off the same eerie, uneasy suspense that a lot of live-action thrillers/horrors do so well. So many classic cinematic tools were used to make it feel like it was shot on camera instead of hand-drawn.

Dude! That massive, trippy alien hand-like-thing was the biggest tease I’ve ever seen… guess I’m watching the second season when that shit drops.

Every student has had at least one teacher that actually inspired them and pushed them towards their ions in life. We need more Mr.Keatings and Robin Williamses in this world. It really shows that he was born to play roles like this, he could have just as well been playing himself. It’s a shame that both their stories came to such a tragic end. 

I’m surprised Robert Sean Leonard didn’t become more of a star after this, he smashed it.

I’m curious to know if, had he just stopped paying the bills, would she have died automatically? If so, he wouldn’t have had to snuff out his own wife, letting the company do it for him, possibly sending a more clear message to the people that this procedure is evil. But then again, maybe they would have just kept her powered on as a walking, talking ment… Either way, hella depressing as usual Black Mirror

Maybe Terrel bullies Chiron so much because he himself is so deeply closeted that he has no other way of dealing with his feelings, and in turn chooses to push them deep down inside and lash out with hatred and violence instead of embracing his sexuality. Or maybe he’s just a real shit ass. Either way he definitely deserved getting that chair smashed over his head.

That haircut/pube beard should have already been enough to lock Jenkins up…

It’s my own fault I didn’t think this film was the masterpiece everyone says it is, because I waited too damn long to watch it. So I don’t fall in to the group of people who were lucky enough to see this when it first came out, nor the group of people who saw it when they were probably too young so it actually scared the shit out of them. But hey, still some classic Kubrick cinematography and Jack and Shelley killed it.

Sir David Mark Rylance Waters! Such a pleasure to listen to him speak; calm, collected, and poignant. His character has such a gentle, melancholic way of eventually showing that he’s the real threat, ready for anything. And anyone who hates blue jeans as much as I do is good in my books. He played this role to damn near perfection.

“You must come to with the idea that perfection is a necessary goal precisely because it’s unattainable. If you don’t aim for perfection, you cannot make anything great and yet, true perfection is impossible. So at the finish you must reconcile yourself to failure. It’s not perfect, you have to make your peace with that. How? You sit at your board, you lay out your tools, and you start again.”

So entertaining on so many different levels. David stole the show. I want to see worms coming out of James Corden’s belly like that.

Kind of half watched it on the tele. The commercial breaks offered some relief from Dakota Fanning’s shrill screaming. Still a cool movie though.

I was a little weary about this one after having seen the trailer a few times and was convinced the natives were going to be portrayed as gutless monsters, who only serve to get their asses kicked by sexy Jeremy Renner. And even though the “white saviour” trope very much still exists in this movie, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of native representation, and maybe it helps that the gutless monsters turned out to be white too. The end could have been slightly improved had he fed that prick to the mountain lions.

If “Murphy’s law” was a movie. 

Left to themselves, things can only go from bad to worse. Safdie brothers are on another level of pessimism and it hurts so good.

The entire time I was watching this I felt the same level of reverence that Key and Peele have for Liam Neesons…

Enjoyable, but not enough depth for me to fully look ed the cheesy element that comes with most animes like this one. I just couldn’t really feel any kind of concrete emotions for these robots. Maybe it’s my fault. 

It did have some engaging ideas and some really captivating animation, especially in some of the fight scenes with Pluto.

A little old lady told me once that I look and sound like a young Sam Elliot and it was the best complement I’ve ever received. 

Aside from being shot in some wildly gorgeous backcountry locations, Elliot is pretty much the only reason this show stayed enjoyable. The Billy Bob cameo was badass, but we only got one minute and one line from Tom Hanks which just felt weird and pointless. The whole thing kind of played like a depressing soap opera for cowboys rather than the gritty western I expected it to be. And that girl kept crying from her nose and not her eyes… what’s that all about? Her narration was pretty darned cheesy but at least it was well written poetry. 

“The world doesn’t care if you die. It won’t listen to your screams. If you bleed on the ground, the ground will drink it, it doesn’t care that you’re cut. I told myself, when I meet God it will be the first thing I ask him: Why make a world of such wonder then fill it with monsters? Why make flowers and then snakes to hide beneath them? […] Then it hit me… he didn’t make it for us.”

For such a sexy film it’s crazy that the sexiest part was when Daniel Craig burst through that drywall.

Slow motion for action film makers is what Slo-Mo is to the drug addicts in this movie, but in this case it’s not a problem. Very well executed.

From the beginning money seemed to be Ani’s main motive, and I was like, “You go girl! Get that bag!” Then out of thin air, she seemed to suddenly believe in her marriage to Ivan, as if the “love” she showed him became true over night. Couldn’t help but feel like it was a break in her character. The massive swing from rooting for Ani because she don’t take shit from nobody, to all of a sudden not understanding why she’s crumbling for this little mama’s boy had me in a kerfuffle… 

Igor is the real heart throb... What really made me squirm (in a good way) was how the ring hand-off at the end had so much more of an emotional impact then when it was first placed on her finger at the altar. 

No denying this film’s charm. The range of emotions it had me feeling was as vast as humanly possible; I was annoyed, heartbroken, enraged, enthralled, horny, distraught, and busting a gut laughing all at the same time.

That ending was so Bollywood!

Jamie should have spent more time on Letterboxd and less time watching Andrew Tate videos

I am pleasantly surprised that it doesn’t feel like Bong is taking himself too seriously after his Oscar success. Feels like he just wanted to have some fun with this one. I agree with majority of Bong fans that this plays as a culmination of his other works, but still very much stands alone. For those of you who went in expecting another Parasite, you might be sorely disappointed, which is why I’m glad my love for Bong started with Snowpiercer and Okja.

About half way through I told my girlfriend I thought it was getting a little repetitive. Shortly after the elevator scene I realized the repetition really worked to drive home the devastation. It emphasizes just how much he’s busting his ass for that money in the pouring rain all day and by the end you wanna curl up and die.

Mullet must have been a hard hitting hairdo in New Mexico in 1989. Ed Harris rockin the skullet is next level villainous… 

A lot of poor decisions made by the main characters which can be a little baffling, and the whole cheesy She-Hulk thing at the end threw me right off, but this film was still quite the thrill and I enjoyed the ride.

It actually kinda stressed me out how horny everyone was…

Don’t listen to the haters. Geralt being a badass, merfolk living in a beautifully animated underwater kingdom, and a fuckin kraken?! Everything my nerdy little heart desires. Nothing but good, pure fun. I hope we get more content like this. 

(Definitely could do without the musical numbers though)

I understand that the whole point is that we have free will, but damn Shinji, couldn’t you use your free will to be less of a little bitch? He, and everyone else, should aspire to be more like Miss Misato.

Is the point of this movie to villainize her abs, or is it to fetishize the abuse? Ultimately it probably does both… Or perhaps it is an attempt at the former, but in the end fails to do so, therefore becomes the latter? 

Marilyn (or should I say Norma) was often misrepresented when she was alive, and in this particular case many believe she continues to be, even after death. This is quite obviously a hyper sexualized film about one of the most sexualized actresses of all time, starring one of the most sexualized actresses of our current time. I see why people believe it’s continuing the cycle of exploitation, and that the film does the same thing it is supposed to be criticizing. I struggle to know whether I should treat it as such, or do I give the film and its creators more credit because it is a fictionalized, visceral, nightmare-like interpretation of her story, aimed to dramatize her trauma for the purpose of criticizing Hollywood and how power and fame corrupt people. Of which both the author of the novel and the director of the film, have been very public about. 

So it comes down to the question; does this fictional recount of Marilyn/Norma’s story help expose corruption and misogyny? Or does it perpetuate corruption and misogyny, and poor Marilyn/Norma is rolling over in her grave because once again we are treating her unfairly?

My personal inner turmoil on the matter forces me for now to say damn it, I just don’t know…

But the fact is, she is SO much more than just a victim, which is what this film fails to portray, and for that, I lean toward the naysayers.

This flick is underrated! The director of Enter the Dragon (arguably Bruce Lee’s best movie), trying his best to restore the genre in America (after Lee’s death) with Jack Chan as an alternative lead!? What’s not to love? Sure it’s silly with all the slapstick fighting, but I feel it still captures the essence of Lee’s films. Kind of like Enter the Dragon meets The Three Stooges. Nothing but good fun, quintessential Jack Chan, especially when he finally gets mad at the end.

“You gonna swallow that squirrel or you just gonna keep chewing on it?” is a crazy thing to say to someone with a thick ass moustache. 

But my favourite part was when that Shoshone ghost on a horse caught a bumblebee bare handed, spit some dope wisdom, then calmly rereleased the bee back into the sky like a Native American Gandalf.

A prime example of why you do not fuck with the timeline!

Wonder what the Turks did to piss off Parker and Stone enough to make this…

We need the other Parker and Stone duo to make a South Park episode about it.

Just an all around tragic story that happens far too often. I’m glad they brought awareness to missing & murdered women of colour at the end as well, and it’s commendable the way Gabby’s father came around, listened and understood what they had to say about it.

Fuck the entire Laundrie family for defending this bastard Brian, who took the cowards way out instead of fes to the evil he committed and doing the time. 

Kinda messed up that they recreated her voice for the journal entrees… I doubt the family would want that.
